Honoring a Hometown Hero

On May 31, Hermann Services had the pleasure to attend the Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Community Leaders of Distinction 2023 award ceremony.

With over 120 guests in attendance, it was truly a special night to celebrate the evening’s honorees:

  • Community Volunteer of the Year: Brian Burns
  • Public Servant of the Year: Alex Miller
  • Innovator of the Year: Jim Horne
  • Community Organization of the Year: Susan Kramer-Mills
  • Hometown Hero of the Year: Lieutenant John Penney
  • Entrepreneur of the Year: Gus Sleiman

What made the event truly special for us was being able to publicly celebrate Lieutenant John Penney of the South Brunswick Police Department. In thanking Lieutenant Penney, we’d be remiss if we didn’t also extend thanks to South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka for allowing us to work with such a great person. We feel that he’s added much to our workplace environment and been crucial to the success of our events last year. We would also like to extend our thanks to the entire South Brunswick Police Department, South Brunswick Mayor Charlie Carley, and the South Brunswick Council for their support.

In 2022 we were introduced to Lieutenant Penney and had the

privilege to work with him on a few of our events: the Old Timer Homecoming Parade and the Corporate Office Grand Re-Opening.

He jumped right into our events, offering dozens of great ideas to increase the enjoyment and safety of both events. Lieutenant Penney was also instrumental in connecting Hermann Services to the other emergency service organizations in the county who participated in both events.

Outside of his involvement with Hermann, Lieutenant Penney has received many awards and has been recognized for outstanding service by his commanders and colleagues. A few of them include:

  • Perfect Attendance Award 2020 – 2023
  • Education Award – 2022
  • The award for “Above and Beyond Performance” for the March 7, 2022, South Ridge Woods Fire Scene
  • Recognition for his assistance with many events in the community
  • And he was appointed the Incident Commander for the 2022 National Night Out

Congratulations, Lieutenant John Penney, on your Hometown Hero Award!
