Join Our Company

Launched in 1927 when Fred J. and Myrtle Hermann purchased their first truck, the Hermann name has since stood for integrity, value, service, and logistics expertise. Our long-term customer relationships, some of which have spanned our entire history, are testimony to the dedication to our values and supply chain solutions we provide.

1927: Hermann Forwarding Company

We were founded in New Brunswick, New Jersey, as Hermann Forwarding Company. Our founders, Fred J. and Myrtle Hermann, purchased a small fleet of trucks to transport watermelons for the Great A&P Supermarket.

1930s: Expansion of Services

Our forwarding services in the Northeast U.S. expands. The company provides dedicated carrier services for Union Carbide (Dow Chemical) and Johnson & Johnson, among others.

1940s: Mayor Fred Hermann

The company continues to grow, and in 1946, Fred J. Hermann takes office as the Mayor of North Brunswick, NJ. He goes on to be their longest-serving mayor for a total of 18 years.

1950s: Radio Service & Expanding to South Brunswick, NJ

Hermann applies with the FCC for radio service so drivers can communicate directly with terminals rather than having to stop to use a telephone. In 1959, Hermann starts construction of its South Brunswick facilities.

1960s: The Second Generation Takes the Helm

The sons of Fred J. and Myrtle Hermann, Richard W., Albert and Fred Hermann, rise to lead the company. They launch the Leasing and Warehouse divisions which inspire the concept of Total Distribution Service. By 1969, Hermann Services operates harmoniously as a family of companies.

1970s: TDS and the Third Generation

A third generation continues the Hermann tradition. The sons of Richard W. Hermann, Richard J. and Dennis W. Hermann, and the son of Albert “Ab” Hermann, William “Billy” Hermann, join the corporation. The expansion of the TDS business philosophy flourishes.

1980s: Increasing Storage Solutions with Hermann Warehouse Corporation

Dennis W. and Richard J. Hermann step into management roles and broaden the expansion of Hermann Services. The Leasing division grows their dedicated fleet operation and Warehousing sees a significant square footage expansion.

2004: Hermann Cares – Making a Difference Together

Hermann Services launches its charitable arm, Hermann Cares, and partners with Toys for Tots which is supported through yearly toy donations, drives, and awareness events.

2010s: Growth of Hermann Warehouse Corporation

We launched our first Drive Out Hunger event for South Brunswick, NJ, collecting one full trailer of food items for local families. In 2017 Charles Capra, President of Hermann Warehouse Corporation, is appointed to the Board of Directors. Our Delaware warehousing footprint also expands with the opening of a new facility in New Castle.

2020s: Milestones on the Way to 100 Years

Hermann Cares partners with Project Protect Our Children, wrapping two trailers with the organization’s information, and we’re named an official annual corporate sponsor for Toys for Tots. In 2022, we remodeled our South Brunswick facilities and celebrated with a parade welcoming home our Old Timer truck and a Grand Reopening party.

Trucking, warehousing and distribution service providers are regulated with safety standards that all industry companies must comply with. But at Hermann Services, we hold ourselves to even higher safety standards companywide. Our board of directors and safety committee ensure that we exceed compliance standards to maintain our leadership position as one of the best run companies in the supply chain industry.

Hermann employees/owner operators go above and beyond the call of duty every day to ensure not only public and personal safety, but also establish our own set of strict safety policies. All of our employees/owner operators are charged with strict safety responsibilities and we are proud of the way we all rise to the challenge.

Today we own and operate a large, “smart” fleet of ELD-equipped, energy efficient transportation equipment that can handle any type of load. Satellite positioning trackers offer real time visibility into performance metrics while in-cab and trailer cameras offer superior levels of safety and cargo tracking.

We keep a ‘young’ fleet to reduce the number of maintenance issues when operating an older truck. With two and a half years for our tractors and four and a half years for our trailers, we’re rotating out older, and more unstable, equipment to keep everyone safe.

 

However, we have a dedicated fleet maintenance and mechanic crew who are always on call and ready to handle anything that comes up!

Hermann Services is a proud member of a Captive Insurance Group. Consisting of over 50 carriers in various regions, all members are audited annually by a SMSC Safety Consultant. The TSA audit consists of numerous Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements including recordkeeping, training, hiring practices, and auto liability/worker’s compensation claims in order for us to maintain membership in good standing.

Reducing Carbon Emissions – One Mile at a Time

We take reducing our carbon footprint seriously at Hermann Services. Since 2014, we’ve taken steps to improve our mileage and reduce emissions from our trucks by maintaining a young fleet, addressing maintenance issues immediately, reducing idle time, and planning efficient routes so our trucks spend less time on the road – to name a few.

 

Today, we are proud to have tractors that get 9 miles to the gallon, and our tractors have an average age of 2 years while our trailers have an average of 5 years.
