Industries
Job sites run on tight timelines, materials need to arrive on schedule, and there is little tolerance for delays. At Hermann, we understand that keeping a project on track means having the right materials in the right place at the right time.
A handling error isn't just a claims issue. It can become an environmental incident, a safety emergency, or a reputational crisis that takes years to recover from.
Food and beverage logistics is one of the most demanding segments within supply chain management, and one of the least forgiving. Every product has a shelf life. Every delivery has a window.
In healthcare logistics, there is no room for error. Products must be stored correctly, handled carefully, and delivered on time, every single time.
Empty shelves cost sales while late deliveries can trigger chargebacks. A missed Must-Arrive-By-Date (MABD) doesn't just inconvenience a buyer, it shows up as a deduction on your invoice. In retail, the margin for error isn't just thin, it’s almost nonexistent.
In manufacturing, efficiency isn't optional; it's everything. Production lines depend on a steady, reliable flow of raw materials in and finished goods out, and any disruption in that flow can have a cascading effect on your entire operation.

One Year After CSA Enforcement, Hermann Maintains Zero Alert Status

Mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) regulations established a new nationwide system for making roads safer for motor carriers and the public alike.

Effective in December 2010, the new Safety Measurement System (SMS) continues to place Hermann Transportation and Leasing on a zero alert status in every safety category monitored by the FMCSA. This means than Hermann Services does not exceed the intervention threshold based upon performance in the following (BASICs) categories:

  • Unsafe Driving
  • Fatigued Driving
  • Driver Fitness
  • Controlled Substances/Alcohol
  • Vehicle Maintenance
  • Cargo Related
  • Crash Indicator

“Of course the bottom line is that our industry is focusing on preventing accidents and saving lives,” said Dennis Hermann, Co-President Hermann Services. “Since day one, Hermann Services has always put safety first and we enthusiastically participated in the 2009 pilot program that lead to the 2010 CSA program.”

“We’re very proud of our safety record and it is our mission to constantly improve our status,” added Karen Nesta, Hermann Services Safety Committee Chairperson and Manager. “It takes teamwork from everyone in our transportation and leasing operations including management, human resources, maintenance, and the drivers themselves. As a team, we have a very low turnover rate and everyone takes pride in our overall safety performance.”

Spearheaded by Ms. Nesta, Hermann Services uses the Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) for all new driver hires, which helps make more informed hiring decisions through electronic access to a driver’s crash and inspection history from the FMCSA Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS). Hermann Services also conducts on-going CSA training for managers and drivers companywide as well as semi-annual driver safety meetings covering HAZMAT, roadside compliance, and injury and accident prevention. The Hermann training sessions, which are not required by FMCSA, educate drivers on how to be prepared for an inspection and stay in compliance. The company’s random drug and alcohol testing are also well above the required standards. Therefore, the number of incidents reported from vehicle and driver inspections is well below the national average.

Hermann Services clients also benefit from the company’s participation in the Captive Insurance Group, which requires high safety and financial standards. According to Ms. Nesta, Hermann customers can be confident that their freight is in the hands of premium drivers with clean driving records operating a safe fleet of vehicles. This assures low liability costs and on-time delivery without fleet check alerts.
