Industries
Job sites run on tight timelines, materials need to arrive on schedule, and there is little tolerance for delays. At Hermann, we understand that keeping a project on track means having the right materials in the right place at the right time.
A handling error isn't just a claims issue. It can become an environmental incident, a safety emergency, or a reputational crisis that takes years to recover from.
Food and beverage logistics is one of the most demanding segments within supply chain management, and one of the least forgiving. Every product has a shelf life. Every delivery has a window.
In healthcare logistics, there is no room for error. Products must be stored correctly, handled carefully, and delivered on time, every single time.
Empty shelves cost sales while late deliveries can trigger chargebacks. A missed Must-Arrive-By-Date (MABD) doesn't just inconvenience a buyer, it shows up as a deduction on your invoice. In retail, the margin for error isn't just thin, it’s almost nonexistent.
In manufacturing, efficiency isn't optional; it's everything. Production lines depend on a steady, reliable flow of raw materials in and finished goods out, and any disruption in that flow can have a cascading effect on your entire operation.

EV-erything Green with the eCascadia

As part of our longstanding mission to provide the most energy efficient distribution processes, Hermann Services will be purchasing a fleet of the Freightliner eCascadia, powered by Detroit Assurance.

The eCascadia has all the same safety features Hermann trucks have come standard with since 2014, such as Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward and Rear facing cameras and Active Side Guard Assist. Electronic vehicles are also quieter than their diesel counterparts, which provides a more comfortable drive and can help reduce driver fatigue.

Our fleets currently get at least nine miles per gallon, higher than the industry average of six to seven miles per gallon. However, the eCascadia can cover around 200 miles daily on a full charge, it can also charge to eighty percent in just ninety minutes. Regenerative breaking recaptures electric power and slows the vehicle so system breaks are used less, which in turn, helps reduce maintenance costs. These features are just some examples of how electric vehicles can save time and money in the logistics planning process. “Planning with electric trucks will give us the capabilities to plan routes for efficiency without concern of refueling and vulnerability of varying diesel fuel costs,” said Brian Nallen, Vice President of Operations, Hermann Services.

In 2007, Hermann was recognized as a SmartWay Affiliate, and we have continued to reduce our carbon emissions to maintain affiliate status ever since. Purchasing a fleet of eCascadias will help further both SmartWay’s and our own goal of improving energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions, and improving energy security. As a SmartWay Affiliate, we aim to help educate our employees, customers, and others in the industry on ways to support sustainability efforts in the supply chain.

“As we roll out our fleet of electric trucks at Hermann, we will continue to support a reduction in oil and other fossil fuels to electric power,” said Nallen. “Deploying a fleet of electric trucks has the potential to make considerable progress toward greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals and enable us to partner with our shippers in this change.”

Hermann Services will be receiving our fleet of Freightliner eCascadias in November 2023.
