Take a look at our timeline of past milestones and achievements. While we’ve come a long way, we continue to keep our eye on the future and have many more plans and goals ahead of us!
- 1927: Fred and Myrtle found Hermann Forwarding Company in New Brunswick with one White Motor Company truck hauling watermelons for the Great A&P Supermarket.
- 1944: Fred Hermann makes his first run for municipal office.
- 1946: Fred begins office as the mayor of North Brunswick, NJ, and served for 18 years (longest standing mayor for the town).
- 1947: Myrtle Hermann becomes President of the company, a true pioneer in a male-dominated industry.
- 1955: Hermann applies with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for radio service so that drivers no longer had to park and find a telephone to communicate with terminals.
- 1959: Construction starts on South Brunswick, NJ, facilities. In July of 1967, an article appeared in the Daily Home newspaper (circulated in New Brunswick, NJ) and explained the move as necessary because, “We feel South Brunswick is a developing community,” Richard W. Hermann said in a quote.
- 1962: Fred and Myrtle’s sons, Albert and Richard W., step into leadership roles, and Myrtle Hermann assumes a role as chairman of the company.
- 1965: Hermann Leasing is created to address the need for power equipment rental needs.
- 1969: The individual divisions (leasing, warehousing, and transportation) come together to operate as Hermann Services.
- 1980: The U.S. government deregulates the trucking industry, creating challenges for many companies and leading to many closures. It takes Hermann Services five years to restabilize our trucking operations.
- 1988: Expands to Houston, TX, for client Union Carbide / Dow Chemical.
- 2004: Hermann Cares, the charitable arm of the company, is launched. Sponsorship with Toys for Tots begins. Every year we host toy drives that our associates, clients, partners and vendors pitch in to support.
- 2008: Hermann wins the “2008 Partners in Service” award from Grainger for our high standards of performance.
- 2011: The company greatly expands our logistics offerings, supporting more customers nationwide.
- 2015: While working with South Brunswick Social Services, we learned that many local families needed food. So, we hosted a Drive out Hunger Holiday Food Drive and filled an entire trailer with food donations. Additionally, we partnered with local charity Hugs for Brady which provides support for children diagnosed with cancer. One of our trailers is wrapped with this foundation’s information as it makes its rounds!
