Compliance, Safety, and Accountability

We Take Pride in Our FMCSA Motor Carrier Zero Alert Status

Mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in 2010, the Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) regulations established a new nationwide system for making roads safer for motor carriers and the public alike. Hermann Transportation and Leasing is proud to report that the company maintains a zero alert status in every safety category monitored by the FMCSA. This means than Hermann Services does not exceed the intervention threshold based upon on-road performance and investigation results.

The new FMCSA Operational Model monitors a motor carrier's data from roadside inspections including safety-based violations, state-reported crashes, and the Federal motor carrier census to quantify performance in the following Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories (BASICs):

  • Unsafe Driving
  • Fatigued Driving
  • Driver Fitness
  • Controlled Substances/Alcohol
  • Vehicle Maintenance
  • Cargo Related
  • Crash Indicator

The bottom line is that Hermann Services is focused on preventing accidents and saving lives. Since day one, Hermann Services has always put safety first and served as a charter member of the 2009 pilot program that lead to the official 2010 CSA program.

Hermann Services uses the Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) for all new driver hires, which helps make more informed hiring decisions through electronic access to a driver's crash and inspection history from the FMCSA Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS). Hermann Services also conducts on-going CSA training for managers and drivers companywide as well as semi-annual driver safety meetings covering HAZMAT, roadside compliance, and injury and accident prevention.

The Hermann training sessions, which are not required by FMCSA, educate drivers how to be prepared for an inspection and stay in compliance. The company's random drug and alcohol testing are also well above the required standards. Therefore, the number of incidents reported from vehicle and driver inspections is well below the national average. Hermann Services clients also benefit from the company's participation in the Captive Insurance Group, which requires high safety and financial standards.

Based on Hermann Services' commitment to safety, customers can be confident that their freight is in the hands of premium drivers with clean driving records operating a safe fleet of vehicles. This assures low liability costs and on-time delivery without fleet check alerts.
